Bergen? Reads the sign as you exit the city’s airport. My husband and I never quite figured out the doubtful nature of the sign. We were definitely in Bergen. And, we absolutely enjoyed what the picturesque town had to offer. But dress warmly. It gets incredibly cold. Especially in January, which is when we visited.
Bruges is more often than not associated with cult black comedy film In Bruges. While the film is a personal favourite I found the town itself makes for the perfect backdrop for a weekend break. My husband, son and I visited Bruges in 2018; we brought in the new year here. The town is small and easy for one to navigate through. It is walkable, which I find is a must on short breaks. It combines the perfect blend of culture and leisure. Architecturally it is gorgeous and pleasing to the eye.
The Isle of Man (IoM) has a very special place in my heart. It is where my husband comes from so we visit frequently, and whenever we do we are bowled over by its natural beauties and the many opportunities to enjoy the outdoors. Of course the below is no concrete itinerary and there are plenty more things to do, but these have been our favourites over time.
We cannot fault you if the first things that springs to mind when hearing Cap D’Antibes are mega yachts, beach babes, and flamboyant party venues. But, the region is not just that. In fact over the years we’ve managed to avoid a lot of those traits and have focused on the lush offerings of nature, clean blue seas and culinary delights that the area has to offer. The below outings can be done as part of a day’s itinerary or over the duration of your stay.
Although the town is most renowned for its film festival and the accompanying glitz it is a great launchpad from where to explore the South of France, while offering delightful options for the days you stay put. The town is buzzing in the summer months but is worth visiting the year round. In fact recommend early autumn and spring.
